Byte to Kilobyte Formula

The complete formula for converting bytes (B) to kilobytes (KB). See the formula, how it works, and worked examples below.

B ÷ 1,000 = KB

How the Formula Works

To convert bytes to kilobytes, divide the value by 1,000 (or multiply by 0.001). This works because 1 byte equals 0.001 kilobytes.

Worked Examples

1 B to KB

  1. Start with 1 B
  2. Divide by 1,000: 1 ÷ 1,000 = 0.001
  3. Result: 1 B = 0.001 KB

5 B to KB

  1. Start with 5 B
  2. Divide by 1,000: 5 ÷ 1,000 = 0.005
  3. Result: 5 B = 0.005 KB

10 B to KB

  1. Start with 10 B
  2. Divide by 1,000: 10 ÷ 1,000 = 0.01
  3. Result: 10 B = 0.01 KB

50 B to KB

  1. Start with 50 B
  2. Divide by 1,000: 50 ÷ 1,000 = 0.05
  3. Result: 50 B = 0.05 KB

100 B to KB

  1. Start with 100 B
  2. Divide by 1,000: 100 ÷ 1,000 = 0.1
  3. Result: 100 B = 0.1 KB

Reverse Formula: Kilobyte to Byte

KB × 1,000 = B
